ANATOMY OF A ROOM: LOFT LIVING

Photos by Chris Dorsey

Living in a Loft Residence isn't always as dreamy as it seems to be (despite the beautiful styled apartments we see in magazines). However, a large part of Los Angeles lives in lofts or studio apartments. WIth the cost of living being one of the highest in the country, this is the reality for many. But there's a lot of advantages to loft living - such as being able to display and see every piece of decor - all. at. once.

We've compiled our list of loft/studio must-haves and how YOU can get the look of a sleek, chic, loft-styled home.

Succulents – One of my favorite parts of a home is the greenery - and if it comes in the form of succulents, i'm hooked (I'm also someone who is not blessed with a green thumb). These little plants are a great way to add some life into any home.

Candles – Candles can be expensive (especially when you’re looking for a large amount to make a statement or faux fireplace). This set of pillar candles from Anthropologie is a go-to of mine because they’re budget friendly and unscented.

Faux taxidermy – If you like the taxidermy trend, minus the taxidermy part, then these faux pieces are just for you. When you’re working with the long walls along a room, it helps to use art and wall hangings to create a focal point for each “room.”

Blue and white rugs – Rugs will turn your furniture arrangements into actual rooms. This is true in any kind of home, but especially in a studio or loft.

Hanging chair – This unusual item makes every home unique. Not only is it a talking piece for those who come into your home, it tells people you love to unwind, relax and have a little fun!

Flatware & dishes - Pretty enough to entertain with, but practical for everyday use (and the dishwasher), these flatware and dishes are perfect to show off your home cooking off.
